A Sad Goodbye To Our Sweet Gentle Giant, Cookie

Hello everyone.  Sorry that I haven't been around for a few days. But our family have been trying to come to terms with the loss of our beautiful sweet gentle giant, Cookie.
She started to be ill on Saturday afternoon, sickness and losing blood. We phoned our vet and they told us to monitor the situation, as it could be something that had upset her tummy.  We sat up with her all night. But by 3.00 am Sunday morning she had become much worse, she didn't even have the strength to stand.  Michael and Ross had to carry her to the car. She weighed 120lbs!! We rushed her to the vet, and they said her vital signs were very bad. After watching her go down hill fast, and with no positive results from any treatment, we couldn't bare to see her suffer any longer, we had to say good bye.  Fortunately, being that time in the morning, we were the only ones in the surgery, so we had some quiet time to lay with her, gently hug her and tell her how much we loved her. It was absolutely heartbreaking.  It upset us even more when the vet couldn't find a vein to insert the cannula, her pulse was so weak.  It took 30 minutes of poking and prodding before they finally managed it.  But, Cookie being the beautiful girl she was, didn't make any fuss.  She just let them get on with it...Bless her! She finally went to sleep at 6.00 am.
I'm still feeling very weepy and even finding one of her hairs in the carpet sets me off. I know some people may think it's stupid when she was a dog.  But to us she was a big part of our family and we all loved her and miss her so very much.
She's free of pain and suffering now, and in my mind she will be running and playing in beautiful green fields, with sweet smelling flowers, which she loved, and I know we will meet her again one day.
Here is our beautiful girl Cookie in happier times...

Fun in the park!
Patiently waiting to go for walkies.
Her favourite place in our garden, sleepy in the warm sunshine.
And finally...with our son, Ross...they adored one another!

Please forgive me if I don't get around to visiting you all in the next few days.

Thank you for stopping by
Lots of love, Sasha xx

So sorry Sasha. I do not have any animals but growing up we had dogs and a pony - so I know how much a part of the family they become.

Oh Sasha, I'm so sorry to hear this very sad news. Do not be apologetic for your feelings because he was 'just a pet' he was a part of your family, and your feelings are normal. I am not a pet owner myself (3 kids!) but I know from friends who own dogs and other pets how important they are to their families. So sorry for you and your family, he looks like a lovely dog. Big hugs my friend ((xxx))

Take care sweet friend and know that I am thinking of you.

I'm so sorry Sasha. I've always had animals until a year and a half ago. One of the reasons we didn't get any more was because of the heartbreak of losing them. Like you, I've always held my animals at the end. I know that they know I am there and giving them love until the very end.

Oh dear Sasha, I've read through your post and I'm shedding tears with you.

It's the most heartbreaking thing ever and although I know it's the kindness thing we can do for them at times like this, it doesn't make the hurt any better.

I lost my beautiful Buffy on 21st of September, so I really do feel for you I know exactly how you must be feeling.

They play a huge part in our lives and are one of the family so it's only natural they leave huge void when they go.

Sending you big hugs and love.

Oh Sasha, I feel for you. It is so hard to lose a pet. They truly do become one of the family and are so important to us humans and our everyday happiness. My own two dogs are such comforting companions for me and I love them dearly. I can only imagine how you feel with Cookie gone. Thinking of you!

Oh Sasha, I am so sorry to hear about Cookie but as you say she is dancing with flowers around her, free of all the pain. What a patient lady she was. Bless her and I hope you can get down to craft to take your mind off.
We used to have dogs when we were kids because my dad was a dog lover. One can get so attached to them and then it is so sad to see them go.
Love,

Oh Sasha, I have tears running down my face as I type this, how utterly heartbreaking for you and your family. I feel your pain as I have been there on so many occasions I miss all of my beautiful babies.Cookie was such a beautiful girl and can never be replaced I know but the only thing that could console me a little after each loss was to choose a new puppy. None could ever take the place of the previous baby but it did help our family to laugh again. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Take care

So sorry to hear about the loss of your beloved pet Cookie. When we lost our last dog my husband said no more pets but after three and a half years I decided to surprise him with a puppy for his Christmas. Things never looked back and the only thing I regretted was waiting so long as Macy brought so much love and fun to our family. You will never forget Cookie but the pain does ease in time. Love to you and your family. xxx
